Episode #007 | APRIL 2020

Activist and former politician Seyi Akiwowo on protecting yourself from online abuse

Seyi Akiwowo is the Founder and Executive Director of Glitch, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to ending online abuse and championing digital citizenship.

Glitch was founded shortly after Seyi, a former politician, faced horrendous online abuse and violence.

Using her first-hand experience and valued expertise, Seyi travels the globe developing practical solutions with governments, NGOs, UN Human Rights Council and tech companies to protect our online public spaces from hate and abuse.

In this episode, we talk about the realities of online abuse in our modern world. Seyi shares incredible wisdom on how social media and the internet is simply a mirror of culture and behaviour; the limitations of language for describing and sanctioning abuse; and practices we can implement to protect ourselves online and take responsibility for making it a safer space for all.
